How to equip an AI classroom: hardware, software and space
A practical overview of what a Czech primary or secondary school really needs for an AI-ready classroom — without unnecessary tech, but without cutting corners.
An AI classroom does not need a robotic arm or a supercomputer. It needs reliable workstations, a good display, a thoughtful layout and rules for use. The following overview summarises equipment that has proved effective.
Hardware — what you actually need
- Laptops or Chromebooks for every pupil (or pair).
- An interactive display or large monitor for sharing output.
- High-quality, stable Wi-Fi covering the entire classroom.
- Headsets with microphones for voice-based AI tasks.
Recommended equipment
The following overview is a regularly updated list of specific products that have proved effective in schools. Links will be added — for now, we list categories and representative models.
Workstations
Chromebook for pupils (14")
Quick startup, management through Google Workspace for Education and enough performance for web-based AI tools.
Display equipment
75" 4K interactive display
Sharing AI output, touch controls and compatibility with both Windows and ChromeOS.
Networking
Wi-Fi 6 access point (classroom)
Classroom coverage for 15–30 devices at once without performance drops. Coordinate this with your IT network administrator.
Peripherals
USB headset with microphone
For voice-based AI tasks (listening, pronunciation and languages) without disturbing others nearby.
Device management
Charging dock
Storing and charging laptops and Chromebooks between lessons, with clear inventory tracking.
Software and licences
- A school Google Workspace for Education or Microsoft 365 A1/A3 tenant.
- Access to an AI tool appropriate for pupils' ages (see How to introduce AI in a school).
- A tool for setting and assessing assignments (Classroom, Teams, Bakaláři, EduPage).
- Content filtering and activity monitoring on the school network.
Classroom layout
Traditional rows of desks facing the front are not ideal for working with AI. A cluster layout with groups of 3–4 pupils works well, complemented by a presentation area and a quieter space for individual work.
Where to go next

Frequently asked questions
Do we need special computers for AI?
No. Most AI tools run in the browser and a standard laptop or Chromebook is enough. Dedicated GPU workstations only make sense for advanced AI programming courses.
How much does it cost?
A basic AI classroom for 15 pupils can be built from roughly CZK 200,000 including display technology. Concrete prices change quickly, so we do not quote figures here.
